Frequently Asked Questions
What is a postpartum doula?
The postpartum period is one of the most tender and transformational times in a family’s life. A postpartum doula offers nurturing, professional care during this sacred window, holding space for healing, rest, and integration after birth.
As your postpartum doula, I support families through nourishing meals, herbal and bodywork care, emotional support, newborn education, and practical guidance that help ease the transition into parenthood.
Do I take insurance?
Yes! I take all managed care plans in the Santa Cruz/ Bay Area.
Medi-Cal covers doula support through a series of visits designed to nurture families before, during, and after birth. This includes:
1 initial 90-minute visit (can be prenatal or postpartum)
8 standard one-hour visits (used as needed, either before or after birth)
1 labor and delivery visit — whether the birth is vaginal, cesarean, VBAC, or involves miscarriage or abortion
2 extended postpartum visits (each up to three hours)
Up to 9 additional one-hour postpartum visits if recommended by a medical provider
What is an Ayurvedic doula?
Ayurveda is a thousand-year-old healing system from India that guides much of my approach to postpartum care. Food and herbs are medicine, and the postpartum body is understood to need warm, easily digestible meals to rebuild strength, support digestion, and rekindle what’s known as agni, or digestive fire.
Ayurveda teaches that the postpartum period is a sacred time to rest, restore, and be deeply nourished, rather than to “bounce back” quickly. My care weaves in this wisdom through herbal support, warm oil massage, and gentle routines that promote tissue repair, hormonal balance, deeper sleep, and nervous system calm.
